Amy Scott is Associate Professor of Anthropology at UNB, specializing in bioarchaeological analysis of stress and health. Funded by SSHRC, she directs the Fortress of Louisbourg Bioarchaeology Field School and the BART laboratory. Research employs biochemical, radiographic, and osteological methods across 18th-century Atlantic Canada, medieval Denmark, and post-medieval Poland contexts.
Research domains include:
- Biomolecular analysis of skeletal stress
- Paleopathological diagnosis
- Mortuary context analyses
- Bioarchaeological ethics
Publications present novel protein-based methodologies for stress analysis and pathological case studies of surgical interventions, tuberculosis, and developmental disorders. Fieldwork documented atypical burials and epidemics across transatlantic contexts.
Current projects investigate lead exposure in fishing communities, surgical practices, and protein diagenesis processes.
