Helen Lynch is a Professor in Early Modern Literature & Creative Writing at the University of Aberdeen, part of the School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture. She holds a PhD from the University of Aberdeen and previously taught at institutions including the University of York and the University of Łódź, Poland. Her research focuses on seventeenth-century poetry, politics, gender, and creative writing. She is Director of the WORD Centre for Creative Writing and Creative Director of the WayWORD Festival, promoting interdisciplinary literary arts.
Education: B.A. English & Related Literature (University of York), M.A. Renaissance Literature (University of York), PhD (University of Aberdeen).
Research interests include early modern literature (Milton, Shakespeare, Spenser), classical reception, rhetoric, and gender studies. She also explores creative writing genres like short fiction, nature writing, and life writing. Her publications include monographs such as Milton and the Politics of Public Speech (2015) and creative works like Tea for the Rent Boy (2018).
Key collaborations involve partnerships with Polish institutions (e.g., Universities of Gdańsk and Bydgoszcz) and initiatives like the Nan Shepherd Prize for Young Writers. She has secured significant grants, including Creative Scotland funding for festivals and cultural projects.
Awards include a Creative Scotland Writer’s Bursary (2011) and Fellowship of the Royal Society for the Arts.
