Dr. Helen Keane is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader in Physical Education and School Sport at the University of Wolverhampton's Faculty of Education, Health & Wellbeing. She leads the BA (Hons) Physical Education undergraduate degree and teaches across practical and theoretical modules, including employability-focused, aesthetic activities, and pedagogical studies. Helen supervises undergraduate dissertations and doctoral students.
Education: BSc (Psychology/Sport) from Liverpool Hope University (2003), MSc (Sport Psychology) from Manchester Metropolitan University (2004), PGCE (Physical Education) from Newman University College (2005), Mindfulness Meditation Teacher certification (2021), and a Professional Doctorate in Education from the University of Wolverhampton (2022).
Research Focus: Social justice in PE, gendered experiences of physical activity, child-centered methodologies (e.g., Write, Draw, Show, Tell, Emoji), and mindfulness in Higher Education. Her doctoral work explored primary boys' gendered perceptions of dance.
Experience: Over 15 years in education, including teaching in UK and Italian schools, curriculum leadership at the International School of Milan (2010–2014), and roles in UK schools like Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Sports College (2005–2010).
