Helen J. K. Sable is the Dunavant Professor and Associate Chair of Educational Initiatives in the Department of Psychology at the University of Memphis. Her research focuses on behavioral toxicology, particularly the effects of drugs of abuse and environmental contaminants on neurodevelopment and learning/memory processes.
Education: Ph.D., University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee; M.S., Kansas State University; B.A., University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.
Research Interests: Investigates how teratogens and environmental pollutants like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) impact dopaminergic systems and behavioral outcomes in animal models. Studies include neurodevelopmental consequences of neonatal nutrition in preterm pigs, and pharmacological interventions for alcohol use disorders using selectively bred rat lines.
Publications highlight her work on dopamine modulation in PCB-exposed rats, neurodevelopmental effects of parental nutrition, and translational models for addiction medications.
