Helen Goulios is an Associate Professor and Clinical Director of the Audiology program in the School of Human Sciences at The University of Western Australia. With extensive clinical and academic experience, she plays a pivotal role in shaping audiology education and service delivery both nationally and internationally.
Her academic journey began with first class honours in Physiology from the University of Western Australia (1982), followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Audiology from Melbourne University (1983). She later completed her PhD through the University of Western Australia Audiology Program, which she helped establish in 2000.
Professor Goulios's research focuses on professional audiology education and enhancing service delivery, particularly in underserved regions. Her work spans comparative audiology, development of audiology services in low-mid income countries, appropriate education models, workforce planning in Australia, and rural/remote hearing healthcare. She has made significant contributions to understanding otitis media in Aboriginal populations, workplace hearing health, and cochlear implant outcomes.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong commitment to improving audiological assessment tools, particularly for diverse cultural contexts, and addressing hearing health disparities in vulnerable populations. Much of her work involves community consultation and cross-cultural adaptation of assessment methods.

Professor Goulios serves as Clinical Director of Audiology, coordinating and lecturing in 10 of the 16 Master of Clinical Audiology units. She has supervised doctoral work and contributes to the training of future audiologists. Her grant activities include the "Shared UWA Audiology/ESIA Academic Position" project with the Ear Science Institute Australia (2021-2025), focusing on collaborative research and education initiatives.
She is actively involved with several organizations advancing audiology practice, currently serving on the Boards of HearingAID East Java and the Earbus Foundation of Western Australia, and previously serving as National Vice-President of Audiology Australia. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and wellbeing.
