Helen E. Jack, MD holds dual roles as a Visiting Researcher at King’s College London since 2014 and as faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Washington. She combines clinical practice as a primary care physician with groundbreaking research in global mental health and implementation science.
Dr. Jack’s education includes a summa cum laude degree from Yale University, an MD from Harvard Medical School, and an Oxford University BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics as a Rhodes Scholar. Her residency in Internal Medicine was completed at the University of Washington.
Her research focuses on integrating behavioral health into primary care for vulnerable populations, with specific emphasis on strengthening mental health systems in sub-Saharan Africa through initiatives like the African Mental Health Leadership Initiative (AMARI). She also investigates lay health worker roles in substance use treatment and chronic disease management in the U.S., supported by NIH and Wellcome Trust grants.
Her published work spans Lancet Psychiatry, British Journal of Psychiatry, and others, addressing global mental health system challenges and healthcare workforce strategies. Dr. Jack co-leads King’s College London’s Research Centre for Global Mental Health, advocating for equity in mental healthcare access worldwide.
