Helen Davies is a Research Fellow (Audience Research) at the University of South Wales, affiliated with the Faculty of Business and Creative Industries and the Creative Industries Research and Innovation Group. She is a key member of the Audience of the Future project under the Fictioneers consortium, collaborating with Aardman Animations on immersive storytelling. Her research spans audience engagement, digital and participatory media, minority language broadcasting, and cultural identity.
Her academic background includes a PhD in Sociolinguistics and Media Studies from Aberystwyth University, an MA in Development Studies from the University of Sydney, and a BA in Anthropology and Geography from University College London.
Her research interests focus on audience research, immersive storytelling, Welsh-language media, political engagement through participatory documentary, and screen industry workforce development. She employs qualitative and participatory methodologies to explore identity construction and media impact in small nations.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in media policy, cultural regeneration, and creative industry innovation, particularly within Wales. Works such as the Wales Screen Workforce Survey and Is This Even Possible? highlight her contributions to understanding skills development and university-industry collaboration in immersive media.
