James Davies is a Research Fellow at the University of South Wales, affiliated with the Creative Industries Research and Innovation Group within the Faculty of Business and Creative Industries. His work focuses on screen skills innovation and workforce development in the creative industries. He is a core member of the Media Cymru project (2022–2026), exploring freelance dynamics and skills training in Wales' screen sector.

- Co-authored influential reports including the Wales Screen Workforce Survey
