Dr Helen Carr is a Lecturer in Secondary Education (History and Geography) at the University of Birmingham, within the School of Education. She serves as the lead tutor for the PGDipEd Secondary History course and co-leads the Secondary Geography course. She is a qualified history teacher with experience in schools across the UK and in Cairo, Egypt, and has a strong background in Holocaust education and teacher training.

Research Interests: Dr Carr's research spans the history of education in England, particularly focusing on how the state education system responded to the arrival of Muslim children in the second half of the 20th century. Her work also explores multiculturalism, state-funded religious schooling, and the pedagogy of contested and sensitive histories, including Holocaust education. She has conducted research on Holocaust education in Egypt and has worked extensively with schools and charities to improve teaching practices in this area.
Teaching Experience: In addition to her role at the University of Birmingham, Dr Carr has taught at Birkbeck College, focusing on race, migration, and multiculturalism. She has also served as an examiner for Edexcel A Level and GCSE History since 2005 and has led educational programs for the Holocaust Educational Trust since 2014.
Research Contributions: Her work includes leading teacher training programs and educational visits to Auschwitz-Birkenau. She has also collaborated with think tanks such as Bright Blue and contributed to parliamentary reports on antisemitism and education.
