Helen Bourke-Taylor is a Professor (Teaching and Research) at Monash University's Department of Occupational Therapy, part of the School of Primary and Allied Health Care. She is a Fellow of the Occupational Therapy Australia Research Academy and leads research on maternal health, disability care, and outcome tool development. Her roles include Honours project coordinator, Research Committee Chair, and unit coordinator for occupational therapy courses.
Education: PhD in Occupational Therapy (La Trobe University, 2010), Master of Science (University of Indianapolis, 2001), and BAppSc (La Trobe University, 1990). Additional training in Online Teaching and Learning (Governors State University, 2011).
Research Interests: Focus on children/young people with disabilities, family support, maternal well-being, and psychometrically robust tools like the Health Promoting Activities Scale. Her work aligns with UN SDGs, particularly education and health equity.
Key Projects: Co-designed Healthy Mothers Healthy Families program, evaluations of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, and international collaborations in Iran/Kuwait. Active in grants, including a 2016 Monash Learning & Teaching Grant.
Awards: 2016 Monash grant and Fellowship status. Research outputs include over 100 peer-reviewed publications and tools like MyFACE for community accessibility assessment.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Healthy Mothers Healthy Families initiative and collaborates on disability health projects. Supervises research on stroke outcomes, family-centered practice, and early childhood intervention.
