Helaine Alessio, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Health within the College of Education, Health, and Society at Miami University. After serving 17 years as Department Chair, she has returned to full-time teaching and research. She is a recognized leader in exercise science, oxidative stress, aging, and public health, with interdisciplinary collaborations across biology, chemistry, psychology, and audiology.

Her work emphasizes community engagement, ecological literacy, and sustainable lifestyles.
Her recent publications reveal a strong trend in e-bike research, examining their cardiometabolic and glucose-regulating benefits, as well as their role in sustainable commuting. She also explores academic integrity in online learning, dual-task exercise for older adults, and hearing acuity in college students. These diverse but interconnected themes reflect her interdisciplinary, applied, and socially conscious research agenda.
