Heinz Käufeler is an associate scientist affiliated with the University of Zurich, specializing in social anthropology and ethnology. He has held teaching positions at universities in Hamburg, Ankara, Basel, Bern, and Lucerne, and has served as coordinator of the Graduate School of Ethnology/Anthropology in Switzerland since 2003.

His research focuses on politics, social change, complex societies, and social movements with regional expertise in the Middle East and Caribbean. Teaching interests span ethnicity, religion, and their intersections with political systems.
