Heinrich Meier is Director emeritus of the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation in Munich, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Munich, and permanent Visiting Professor in the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago. His academic work bridges German and American institutions with a focus on political philosophy and the history of ideas.
His research explores foundational questions in political philosophy through the works of key thinkers:
- Political theology and philosophical methodology in Carl Schmitt and Leo Strauss
- Rousseau's concept of the philosophic life and social contract theory
- Nietzsche's existential and political critiques
- Historical analysis of philosophical traditions from Lucretius to Heidegger
Meier's publications demonstrate sustained engagement with philosophical exegesis, particularly through critical editions and interpretive studies of primary texts. His scholarship consistently addresses tensions between reason and revelation, individual freedom and political order, across different historical contexts.
