Heinderyckx Francois

Francois Heinderyckx is a Full Professor at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and served as Dean of the Faculty of Letters, Translation and Communication from 2015 to 2019. He holds the Chang Jiang Professor title at the Communication University of China (CUC) from 2014 to 2018. His research focuses on media literacy, digital media, journalism, political communication, and e-government. He has held significant leadership roles, including President of the International Communication Association (ICA) and European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA).

Heinderyckx is Series Editor-in-Chief of the Wiley Blackwell–ICA International Encyclopedias of Communication and contributes to numerous editorial boards. His work emphasizes the evolving role of journalism in the digital age and media accountability across Europe. He is a Fellow of ICA and actively participates in media education councils in Belgium and Europe.

His scholarly contributions span gatekeeping theory, transnational media, and media’s societal impact. He collaborates with research groups like LaPIJ (Laboratoire des pratiques et identités journalistiques) and the Brussels Platform for Journalism. Awards include leadership roles in global communication associations and recognition for advancing media research and education.
