Claire Pelgrims

Claire Pelgrims is an MSCA-IF Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Urbanism at Université Gustave Eiffel (France), affiliated with the Laboratoire Ville Mobilité Transport. Her research focuses on mobility infrastructure, gender dynamics, aestheticism, and functionality in urban contexts. She holds a PhD from Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB, 2020), where her thesis explored imaginaries of fast/slow mobilities in Brussels’ infrastructure since the mid-20th century. Currently, her postdoctoral project SENCyclo examines gender constructions in bicycling practices, equipment, and infrastructure across France and Switzerland.

Research Interests: Claire’s work bridges urban studies, gender analysis, and infrastructure design. She investigates how aesthetic and functional dimensions of mobility systems intersect with sociocultural norms, particularly through the lens of cycling culture. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates historical, sociological, and spatial perspectives to address contemporary urban challenges.
