Heike Molitor

Prof. Dr. Heike Molitor is Professor of Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development at the Faculty of Landscape Use and Nature Conservation, University of Applied Sciences Eberswalde for Sustainable Development (HNEE). She has held this position since 2009 and serves as Program Director for the continuing education Master's program "Education - Sustainability - Transformation" and Academic Advisor for the Master's program "Regional Development and Nature Conservation" (M.Sc.).

Her research focuses on Environmental Education, Education for Sustainable Development, Global Learning, Nature Experience Spaces, Sustainable Development, and Health Promotion. She investigates how urban environments can serve as spaces for nature experience, particularly for children's development and learning through free play in natural settings. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks of sustainability education with practical applications in urban planning, nature conservation, and educational institutions.

Prof. Molitor's recent publications (2022-2024) reveal a strong emphasis on urban nature experience spaces, curriculum development for sustainability education, and the integration of sustainability principles in higher education. Her research demonstrates how natural environments in cities can support child development, how educational institutions can effectively implement sustainability principles in their curricula, and how community participation contributes to urban biodiversity conservation.

She leads multiple significant research projects including InNoWest (2023-2027) focusing on innovations in Northwest Brandenburg combining sustainable development and digitalization, 1Future (2023-2026) building climate-resilient communities in the Western Balkans and EU, and Nachhaltigkeit an Brandenburger Hochschulen (2024-2028) coordinating sustainability efforts across Brandenburg universities.
