Inga Schleip

Prof. Dr. Inga Schleip has been Professor of Sustainable Grassland-Use Systems and Grassland Ecology at Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) since 2016, situated within the Faculty of Landscape Use and Nature Conservation. She leads research and teaching on adaptive pasture management, climate-smart grassland use, and biodiversity conservation in organic soils.

Education & Career:

• Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.), TU Munich – Chair of Grassland Science (2006–2012)
• Organic farming adviser, Bioland Bavaria (2012–2016)
• Professor, HNEE (since 2016)

Research Interests centre on resilient grazing systems, carbon and water cycling in grasslands, and sustainable management of organic (peat) soils under climate change. Her work integrates field experimentation, sensor-based monitoring (UAV, AI) and participatory on-farm trials to develop climate-adapted, biodiversity-promoting grassland practices.

Key Projects include DAKIS (2025–2028) for digital knowledge systems, WetNetBB (2023–2032) on wet-peatland utilisation, and several Mob Grazing projects evaluating high-density rotational grazing as a drought-adaptation strategy.

Publications & Outreach: More than 15 peer-reviewed articles since 2013, multiple policy statements for the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and extensive practical guides and media contributions on Mob Grazing and peatland protection.

Service & Memberships:

• Since 2023: Chair, appointment committee “Vegetation Science & Applied Plant Ecology”

Labs & Teams: She heads the Grassland Ecology & Sustainable Use research group, supervising technicians, PhD candidates and MSc students; collaborates closely with the HNEE Research Station Wilmersdorf and numerous commercial farms across Brandenburg and Germany.
