Heidi Strømskag

Heidi Strømskag is a Professor at NTNU's Department of Mathematical Sciences, part of the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. She holds a cand.scient. from NTNU and a PhD in mathematics didactics from the University of Agder. Her research focuses on mathematical modeling, algebra education, and the anthropological theory of didactics (ATD).

Strømskag leads key projects like EDUParadigms (2022–2026), CiviMatics (2020–2023), and LaUDiM (2014–2018). She chairs Norway's ICMI delegation and serves on editorial and scientific committees for INDRUM, Recherches en Didactique des Mathématiques, and ERME. She is a core member of the ATD research group and Nordic algebra networks (N2AL).

Her work synthesizes didactic theories like the Theory of Didactic Situations (TDS) and anthropological approaches, emphasizing study-and-research paths (SRP) for teaching algebra and calculus. Recent articles explore didactic transposition, teacher education paradigms, and modeling in civic education. She advises on curriculum design and teacher training frameworks.

Strømskag co-developed methodologies for instructional design centered on student learning needs and epistemic engagement. Her 2023 analysis of integral calculus tasks and 2021 critique of algebraic formalism highlight empirical contributions to mathematics pedagogy.
