Heidi Monroe is an Associate Professor of Nursing at the School of Health Sciences, Seattle Pacific University (SPU), where she has taught since 2007. A graduate of SPU’s nursing program (BS 1989, MSN 2007, PhD 2017), she combines academic work with clinical practice as a pediatric registered nurse at Seattle Children’s Hospital, with 26 years of experience in pediatric acute, ambulatory, and community settings.

Dr. Monroe specializes in clinical ethics and nursing professional values development. Her research examines ethical alignment in nursing practice, including her doctoral dissertation on nurses’ challenges with the Code of Ethics. She has explored diversifying the nursing workforce, particularly men’s experiences in pediatric nursing, and co-authored the book Christian Ethics and Nursing Practice (2020) with Dr. Richard Steele. Her publications address ethics education, collaborative leadership, and patient management.
Her research themes span pediatric nursing, community health, medical-surgical nursing, and Christian ethics integration. She has taught courses in pediatric nursing, community health, nursing ethics, leadership, research, and professional identity. Dr. Monroe emphasizes forming nurses with professionalism, competence, and caring, while collaborating with Christian educators to shape future healthcare leaders.
