Hee-Jeong Jeong is a Senior Lecturer in Korean at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) within the Global Languages program, where she developed and leads the Korean language curriculum across all proficiency levels. Prior to MIT, she taught at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Harvard University, and Rice University.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD from University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa
- MA from University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa
- BA from Hallym University, Republic of Korea
Dr. Jeong’s research focuses on grammaticalization processes in Korean, language pedagogy innovations, integration of pedagogical technologies, and standardized proficiency assessment methodologies. She actively contributes to the field as an ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) certified tester, rater, and apprentice trainer, regularly presenting on blended learning approaches at language pedagogy conferences.
Her scholarly publications include co-editing Essentials of Korean Culture (2014) and co-authoring the Integrated Korean textbook series: High Intermediate Korean 1 and 2 (2019) and Advanced Korean 1 and 2 (2021), which represent significant contributions to Korean language education resources.
She maintains office hours Mondays and Tuesdays 2:00-3:00 pm in room 14N-312 at MIT, with additional appointments available upon request, and can be contacted at jeongh@mit.edu or 617-258-6745.
