Hector Caruncho is Professor and Canada Research Chair in Translational Neuroscience at the University of Victoria's Division of Medical Sciences, with adjunct appointments at University of British Columbia and University of Saskatchewan. He holds a PhD in Cell Biology from University of Santiago de Compostela and completed postdoctoral training at NIH and Georgetown University.
Research focuses on:
- Neurobiological mechanisms of depression/schizophrenia
- Biomarker discovery for mood disorders
- Neuroinflammation pathways
- Reelin signaling therapeutics
Recent publications explore gut-brain axis interactions, microglia-targeted therapies, and epigenetic regulation in stress models. Awards include Canada Research Chair and Fulbright Scholarship. Outreach activities include engagement with patient associations.
