Heather Welland

Heather Welland is an Associate Professor in the History Department at Binghamton University and serves as the Director of Undergraduate Studies. Her research focuses on Early Modern Britain, the British Empire, and the Atlantic World, with a particular emphasis on economic ideologies during imperial crises.

She teaches courses on early modern Britain, imperialism, utopian thought, famine, and the English civil wars. Her first book, Political Economy and Imperial Governance in Eighteenth-Century Britain (Routledge, 2021), analyzes economic thought in imperial contexts, while her current research examines industrial life insurance.
