Dr. Heather Terrell is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of North Dakota's College of Arts and Sciences. As Director of Undergraduate Psychology Programs since 2015, she focuses on teaching, mentoring, and curriculum design. Her academic leadership roles include co-chairing UND's Student Success through Academic Excellence strategic plan working group and serving on the Task Force for the Future of Education.
Dr. Terrell holds a Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in Psychology from Arizona State University (2009, 2006, 2002). Her research interests span social and personality psychology, human sexuality, gender studies, and pedagogical innovation. Though no longer mentoring graduate students due to her administrative roles, she has advised numerous undergraduate researchers.
Her scholarly contributions include over 30 peer-reviewed publications in journals like Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion and Group Processes and Intergroup Relations. Key topics include religious group dynamics, sexual assertiveness measurement, and gender role negotiations. She received the 2019 Elmer and Min West award for educational innovation.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on human sexuality, research methods, professional ethics, and psychology of women/gender. Her work emphasizes inclusive teaching practices and evidence-based pedagogy.
