Heather Poole is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Ottawa, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences. Her research focuses on pedagogy in university settings, examining teaching approaches and evaluation methods' effects on student learning and well-being. She led a multi-institutional project analyzing the impact of semester scheduling policies on stress and academic performance, employing both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
Dr. Poole holds a BScH in Psychology from Queen's University and a PhD in Psychology from McMaster University. She currently teaches undergraduate courses including PSY2106 (Quantitative Methods), PSY2114 (Lifespan Psychology), PSY2174 (Research Methods and Ethics), and introductory psychology modules. Her work emphasizes practical applications of research to improve educational practices.
Recent publications explore the effects of fall breaks on student stress physiology and academic outcomes, particularly in engineering and undergraduate populations. She collaborates with undergraduate volunteers but is not currently recruiting new participants.
