Dr. Heather May Morgan is the Dean for Enterprise & Innovation and Senior Lecturer in Applied Health Sciences at the University of Aberdeen, affiliated with the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition. With a multidisciplinary academic foundation in law, sociology, gender studies, and health research, she drives innovation and enterprise across the university, promoting business engagement, student start-ups, and regional economic development.
Her educational background includes an LLB (Hons) in Law (2005), a CertHE in Gender Studies and Philosophy (2006), an MRes in Social Research (2007), and a PhD in Sociology (2013), all from the University of Aberdeen. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA, 2011) and the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA, 2018).
Dr. Morgan specializes in digital health, qualitative research, and pedagogical innovation, particularly in work-based learning and authentic assessment. Her research explores how digital technologies impact health behaviors, patient experiences, and social dynamics, using ethnographic, narrative, and mixed methods approaches. She has led studies on fitness trackers, telehealth, incentive programs for maternal health, and surveillance in healthcare.
The most recent publications highlight her focus on digital health tools (e.g., ASICA app for melanoma survivors), mental health in visual impairment, reflective writing for student resilience, and behavioral interventions in clinical consent. Her work spans health technology, public engagement, and pedagogical reform, often involving interdisciplinary collaboration.
