Heather MacLaughlin-Garbes is an Affiliate Assistant Professor specializing in Baltic choral music and cultural studies. She holds a D.M.A. in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington (2008), an M.M. from the same institution (2006), and a B.M.E. from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (1998). Her research focuses on Baltic choral traditions, particularly the preservation of Latvian, Lithuanian, and Estonian musical heritage. She developed the UW Baltic Choral Library, the first collection of its kind in the U.S., and has presented at international conferences such as the College Music Society and AABS. Her work appears in The Use of the International Phonetic Alphabet in the Choral Rehearsal (Scarecrow Press, 2008), co-authored with Dr. Duane Karna and Andrew Schmidt.
