Heather Jensen is an Adjunct Professor at Flinders University's College of Medicine and Public Health. She has been affiliated with the Centre for Remote Health since 2004, focusing on healthcare delivery in remote Indigenous communities. Her work spans occupational therapy education, program development, and collaborative research. She holds qualifications from Canberra College of Advanced Education, Cumberland College of Health Sciences, University of South Australia, and James Cook University.
Research interests include disability services in Indigenous communities, dementia care, and models for allied health professionals in remote regions. Current projects include an ARC-funded initiative exploring 'A good life for people with disabilities' in Central Australian lands. Professional roles include Vice Chairperson of Disability Advocacy Service (Alice Springs) and NT Representative for SARRAH (Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health).
Teaching responsibilities involve postgraduate health programs and professional development courses on dementia, disability, and care planning. She has pioneered interprofessional education approaches and contributed to training materials like the SARRAH Transition Program. Awards include the 2007 Carrick Award for University Teaching (team).
Key collaborations include work with Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara, and Yankunytjatjara communities, emphasizing land, family, and cultural practices as central to wellbeing. Her research addresses systemic challenges in service delivery and advocates for Indigenous community control over health initiatives.
