Heather Jaber

Heather Jaber is an Assistant Professor in Residence with a joint appointment in the Liberal Arts Program and Communication Program at Northwestern University in Qatar. She holds a PhD in Communication from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Media Studies from the American University of Beirut. Her research focuses on digital and popular culture, affect theory, and transnational media in the MENA region, particularly analyzing how emotions like shame and pride shape narratives of global belonging. She teaches courses on digital culture, social media, and media interpretation.

Her work explores geopolitical dimensions of feeling through media analysis, including digital leaks, television drama, and cultural artifacts. She has published in journals like Science, Technology, & Human Values and Critical Studies in Media Communication, addressing topics such as Arab media infrastructures, transnational affect, and cultural conflict. Her writing critiques how media shapes national imaginaries and global identities.

Jaber’s academic contributions span media studies, cultural theory, and global communication, with a focus on bridging theoretical frameworks and empirical research in the Middle East and North Africa.
