Heather Howes is a Lecturer in Flute and Woodwind Ensembles at McGill University's Schulich School of Music, Vanier College, and Marianopolis College. With over 40 years of performance experience, she maintains an active career as orchestral musician, soloist, and chamber player.
Howes holds a M.Mus. in Flute Performance from McGill University where she studied with Timothy Hutchins, followed by advanced studies with Geoffrey Gilbert. Her orchestral positions include Second Flute/Solo Piccolo with Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières and Principal Flute with Orchestre symphonique de Longueuil.
Pedagogically, Howes develops comprehensive flute techniques across skill levels and mentors students pursuing diverse career paths. She emphasizes chamber music collaboration and prepares students for orchestral auditions. As clinician and adjudicator, she serves on juries for national competitions including the Canadian Music Competition.
