Heath R. Pierce serves as Clinical Professor and Director of the Applied Exercise Science Program within the Department of Exercise and Sport Performance at the University of New England's Westbrook College of Health Professions. Employed since 1997, he previously held roles as Senior Fitness Specialist/Coordinator of Strength and Conditioning (1997-2006) before advancing to his current leadership position.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education with Exercise Science concentration from the University of Maine at Farmington (1995) and a Master of Education in Exercise Science from the University of Maine (2004).
Pierce's expertise spans Exercise Science, Strength and Conditioning, and Exercise Physiology, with 25+ years of applied experience working across diverse populations from youth athletes to cardiopulmonary rehabilitation patients and professional sports teams. His clinical approach integrates evidence-based strength training and exercise physiology principles.
Professional recognition includes:
- 2009 State Director of the Year Award (National Strength and Conditioning Association)
- 2014 Personal Trainer of the Year Award (NSCA)
He maintains active leadership in professional organizations, having served as Maine State Director of the NSCA (2007-2013) and Northeast Regional Coordinator (2013-2019), while holding multiple certifications including NSCA-CSCS*D, NSCA-CPT*D, RSCC*D, and ACSM-EP*C.
