Dr. Heath Bowen is an Associate Professor of History and Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at St. Thomas Aquinas College. He specializes in American history from 1800 to 1850, focusing on political tensions, industrialization, capitalism, and issues of slavery and Indigenous removal. He joined STAC in 2009 and emphasizes experiential learning, such as fieldwork at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to connect history with modern challenges.

Research Interests: Dr. Bowen explores the formation of democracy, national political parties, and the societal impacts of industrialization and westward expansion. He examines how historical conflicts over slavery and Indigenous policies continue to influence contemporary social dynamics. By integrating service projects and community engagement, he bridges historical inquiry with present-day activism.
Leadership and Service: As Dean, he oversees the School of Arts and Social Sciences and chairs committees such as the General Education Assessment Committee. He directs the Justice Studies Institute, fostering dialogues on critical social issues through panels, guest speakers, and film screenings. His administrative roles include membership in the Curriculum Committee and College Planning Board.
