Hazel Gray is a Senior Lecturer in African Studies and International Development at the School of Social and Political Science, University of Edinburgh. Her research focuses on the political economy of development in Africa, with a regional emphasis on East Africa, particularly Tanzania. She has extensive policy experience through collaborations with national and international development agencies.

Recent research outputs highlight agro-industrialization pathways, political settlements frameworks, and the interplay between social policy and economic change. She has co-authored studies on corruption, banking regulation, and postcolonial critiques of development paradigms.
