Dr. Hazel Collie is a Course Leader in Media and Communication at Birmingham City University. She teaches research-based modules across all three years of the BA Media and Communication degree, serves as the ethical review coordinator for the Birmingham Centre of Media and Cultural Research (BCMCR), and acts as the student welfare officer in the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media.
Education:
- PhD in Media Studies from De Montfort University (2014)
Research Focus: Hazel's work centers on historical media audiences, particularly British women's engagement with television post-WWII. She employs oral history methodologies to explore how media use shapes identity, memory, and familial/national narratives. Current research maps migration experiences onto media consumption, analyzing identity shifts across generations and life stages.
Scientific Contributions: Her projects have been funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), and her publications appear in journals like Screen and VIEW, as well as edited collections.
