Hazel Clark is a Professor of Design Studies and Fashion Studies at The New School, affiliated with the Parsons School of Design. She has held leadership roles including Dean of the School of Art and Design History and Theory (ADHT), Interim Dean of the School of Fashion, and Acting Director of the MA Fashion Studies at Parsons Paris. Her work bridges academic research, media engagement, and professional consultation.
Education: PhD in Design History; First Degree in Fine Arts.
Research Interests: Hazel’s scholarship explores global perspectives in fashion and design, with a focus on China, sustainability, and everyday life. Her work challenges conventional narratives through publications like The Fabric of Cultures and Slow + Fashion. She advocates for interdisciplinary approaches to fashion theory, blending historical analysis with contemporary socio-political contexts.
Publications & Media: Hazel has authored/co-authored seminal works on fashion history, sustainability, and curation. Her media engagements include public dialogues with industry leaders such as Diane von Furstenberg and Eileen Fisher, emphasizing ethical practices and innovation in fashion.
