Hayley Newton is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Biomedicine Discovery Institute at Monash University. Her research focuses on intracellular bacterial pathogens, particularly Coxiella burnetii, a zoonotic pathogen requiring a One Health approach for study. She completed her PhD on Legionella pneumophila pathogenesis at Monash University and held a NHMRC Training Fellowship for postdoctoral research at Yale University, where she pioneered genetic studies on Coxiella. In 2022, she returned to Monash as part of the Infection Program.
