University of Arkansas for Medical Sciencesمعرفی
Daniel E. Voth is a Professor and Vice Chancellor of Research & Innovation at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), affiliated with the College of Medicine’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology. His research focuses on the pathogenesis of bacterial infections in the human lung, particularly the obligate intracellular pathogens Coxiella burnetii (Q fever agent) and Staphylococcus aureus. Dr. Voth employs human-derived primary cell and tissue models to investigate host-pathogen interactions, bacterial survival mechanisms, and cellular signaling pathways.
- Education: Ph.D., University of Oklahoma; Postdoctoral training at NIH Rocky Mountain Laboratories.
- Key Research Themes:
- Study of Coxiella burnetii type IV secretion systems and host protein interactions.
- Analysis of macrophage survival signaling (Akt, Erk1/2, PKA) during infection.
- Investigation of S. aureus toxin production and intracellular survival in pulmonary cells.
- Role of Nrf2 antioxidant pathway and p62 in oxidative stress responses.
- Laboratory: The Voth Lab develops ex vivo human lung tissue platforms to study bacterial pathogenesis, emphasizing translational research for infectious disease interventions.
Dr. Voth’s work bridges molecular microbiology and clinical relevance, with a focus on understanding how pathogens manipulate host cells to establish infections. His studies aim to identify novel therapeutic targets and improve diagnostic strategies for respiratory bacterial infections.
