Hawa Stwodah serves as Assistant Professor of Fashion Design at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts. As a designer, illustrator, and educator with international industry experience, she has collaborated with companies in the United States, Middle East, Europe, and Asia. Her professional work spans menswear, women's sportswear, activewear, healthcare textiles, and infant accessories.
Her research explores traditional surface design techniques and conceptual layering of materials and meanings. Through nationally and internationally exhibited work, she examines social behaviors and cultural narratives in textile and fashion contexts. Her design practice incorporates innovative material applications with emphasis on sustainable approaches.
