Haviva Goldman, PhD, is a Professor and Vice Chair of Medical Education in the Department of Neurobiology & Anatomy at Drexel University College of Medicine, with an additional role as Assistant Dean for Phase 1 Curriculum. She is also affiliated with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Materials Science and Engineering at the College of Engineering. Dr. Goldman earned her PhD in Physical Anthropology from the City University of New York (2001), an MA in Anthropology from Hunter College, and a BA in Anthropology (cum laude) from Barnard College.
In medical education, she teaches Gross Anatomy and Microanatomy to first-year students and leads courses like Molecules to Organs and Human Structure and Function I. She developed online resources for microanatomy using virtual slide technologies and directs a summer remediation course in medical microanatomy. Her research focuses on bone quality, skeletal fragility, and applications to osteoporosis and archaeological skeletal studies. She established the Bone Biology Laboratory at Drexel’s Queen Lane campus, fostering interdisciplinary musculoskeletal research.
Dr. Goldman has received awards including the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching (2013) and the Angelo Pinto Educator Award (2011). Her work bridges anthropology, engineering, and clinical medicine, emphasizing bone microstructure and adaptation across life stages. She actively contributes to curriculum development and student remediation strategies in medical education.
