Francis Sessler, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Neurobiology & Anatomy at Drexel University College of Medicine. His work focuses on medical neuroscience education and developing web-based teaching tools such as the Brain Atlas and Neurosciences animations. He has directed courses including Human Structure and Function I, Medical Neuroscience, and a summer remediation course for medical students. His research background includes studies on hypertension physiology, monoamine neuromodulation, and neurotrophic factor expression in the brain.
Dr. Sessler earned his PhD from the University of Pierre & Marie Curie, Paris. He completed postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, Dallas. His contributions to education have been recognized with multiple Golden Apple Awards, the Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching, and the Angelo Pinto Basic Science Educator Awards.
His educational materials include interactive web programs like Brain Review in Diagrams, tutorials on brain anatomy, and clinical case games. These tools emphasize integrating neuroanatomy with clinical functions and lesion analysis. His research publications span neurophysiology, neuromodulation, and neurotrophic mechanisms in the hippocampus and cerebellum.
Dr. Sessler collaborates on grants supporting educational technology in medical training and has presented at conferences such as the AAMC Annual Research in Medical Education. His office is located at 2900 W. Queen Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19129.
