Harunor Rashid is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Specialty of Child and Adolescent Health at the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney. He holds an MD from the University of London (2009) and completed pediatric and tropical medicine training across Bangladesh, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the UK. He serves as Honorary Secretary of the Australasian College of Tropical Medicine and chairs the Mass Gathering Medicine Interest Group at the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM).
His research focuses on:
- Epidemiology of vaccine-preventable diseases
- Mass gathering and travel medicine
- Tropical medicine and Indigenous health
- 'Closing the gap' in healthcare disparities
His recent publications (2022-2025) primarily explore mass gathering medicine (73%), vaccine epidemiology (20%), and antimicrobial resistance (7%), with strong emphasis on Hajj pilgrim health, COVID-19 impacts, and innovative disease surveillance methods.

He co-leads the Mass Gathering Medicine Node at the Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute and supervises postgraduate researchers. His work informs WHO guidelines for religious mass gatherings.
