Dr Auriol Purdie is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Sydney's Sydney School of Veterinary Science, specializing in farm animal and veterinary public health. She holds a BSc (Molecular Genetics) from King's College London, an MSc in Immunology of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a PhD in immunomodulatory effects of antibiotics from the University of Aberdeen.
Her research focuses on mycobacterial infections, particularly paratuberculosis, and includes vaccine development, host-pathogen interactions, and zoonotic disease epidemiology. Key projects involve identifying biomarkers of disease resilience, studying immune responses to vaccines, and investigating leptospirosis in pig-hunting dogs and humans.
Dr Purdie contributes to grants like the $1M MLA-funded cattle vaccine project (2024) and a Sydney ID Seed Grant (2022) exploring nanoparticle-based vaccines. She collaborates with institutions like the Sydney Institute of Agriculture and serves on Heliyon's editorial board.
Her work bridges veterinary and human health, addressing livestock productivity challenges and emerging infectious diseases through molecular, immunological, and epidemiological approaches.
