Harold Takooshian is Professor of Psychology & Urban Studies at Fordham University, where he has been a faculty member since 1975, beginning his teaching career at age 23. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from City University of New York (1979) and has taught in both the U.S. and South America. Dr. Takooshian serves as Managing Director in the Department of Psychology at Fordham University and has held significant leadership positions including President of Psi Chi (1993-2000), President of APA Divisions of International Psychology (2003) and General Psychology (2007), and representative of APA to the United Nations.
Dr. Takooshian's research spans applied social/personality psychology, industrial psychology, urban psychology, cross-cultural psychology, ethnicity and feminism. He is particularly noted for his work on the Kitty Genovese case and bystander intervention. His primary research interests include: Applied Social Psychology, Attitudes and Beliefs, Culture and Ethnicity, Gender Psychology, Helping and Prosocial Behavior, Organizational Behavior, Personality, Individual Differences, and Research Methods.
His publication record demonstrates consistent engagement with international psychology topics, with recent works focusing on Psychology at the United Nations, Armenian psychology, human-animal relations, and military psychology. His scholarship shows a clear trajectory toward global applications of psychological science, particularly through UN initiatives and cross-cultural collaborations.

His current work focuses on building global psychology networks, particularly among Armenian psychologists, and exploring psychology's role in addressing global challenges through United Nations channels.
