Dr. Yvette G. Flores is a Professor of Chicana/o Studies at the University of California, Davis. Born in Panama and raised in Costa Rica, she migrated to the U.S. in 1965. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from UC Santa Barbara (1970), an M.A. in Community-Clinical Psychology from CSU Long Beach, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from UC Berkeley (1982). Her research bridges clinical psychology and Chicano/Latino studies, focusing on gender, ethnicity, and sexualities, particularly in contexts of migration and border dynamics. Current work examines intimate partner violence among Mexicans on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.
She serves as President of APA Division 27 (Society for Community Research and Action). Her professional roles include research psychologist, licensed psychologist, and educator with postdoctoral specialization in health psychology. Dr. Flores is actively involved in substance abuse treatment outcome research and community-based interventions. She emphasizes applied research addressing systemic inequities impacting marginalized communities.
