Harm-Jan Westra is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Genetics, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Groningen. He holds a PhD in Genetics from the same institution (2014). His research focuses on functional genomics, epigenetics, and gene regulatory networks, with applications to disease genetics and personalized medicine.
Education: PhD in Genetics (2014, University of Groningen). Postdoctoral positions included Research Fellow roles at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Broad Institute, and Harvard Medical School (2014–2017).
Research interests include genome-wide association studies (GWAS), gene co-expression networks, and the interplay between genetics and epigenetics in disease. Recent work highlights include linking cancer-susceptibility genes to somatic drivers, epigenetic regulation of metabolic pathways, and microbiome-DNA methylation interactions.
Collaborations span institutions globally, with notable contributions to projects like KidneyNetwork and PICALO method development for eQTL analysis. Publications emphasize translational applications in precision medicine and disease biology.
