Professor Haris Vlavianos holds the position of Professor of Modern Greek History and Literature at Deree - The American College of Greece. His academic background includes a D.Phil. and M.Phil. in International Relations from the University of Oxford, and a B.Sc. in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Bristol. He is a distinguished poet, editor of Poetics, and renowned translator of major literary works into Greek.
His research and creative work spans poetry, literary translation, and philosophy. Notable publications include Self-Portrait of Whiteness (2018), which won multiple prestigious awards, and Hitler’s Secret Diary (2016), praised internationally. He has translated works by Walt Whitman, T.S. Eliot, and Louise Glück, among others. In 2005, he was honored with the title of Cavaliere by the Italian Republic for promoting Italian culture in Greece, and received the Dante Prize for his Divine Comedy studies.
His academic contributions include essays on poetry and philosophy, and he actively engages in cultural diplomacy through literary translation. Recent projects involve translating Emily Dickinson and Louise Glück, further cementing his role as a bridge between global literary traditions.
