Harald Prüß

Prof. Dr. Harald Prüß is a Professor and group leader at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) in Berlin. His work centers on autoantibody-mediated neuropsychiatric illnesses, such as NMDA receptor encephalitis, and their implications for understanding and treating neurodegenerative diseases.

His research group isolates antibody-producing cells from patient cerebrospinal fluid, produces recombinant antibodies using molecular techniques, and investigates their direct pathogenic effects on synaptic transmission. These monoclonal antibodies are being explored for high-resolution microscopy and as targets for novel immunotherapies in dementia treatment. The group’s translational approach aims to identify patients who may benefit from immunotherapy by uncovering molecular mechanisms of neuronal damage.
