Hao Xu is a Professor of Chemistry at Brandeis University, Department of Chemistry. Previously, he served at Georgia State University for 10 years and held postdoctoral positions at Harvard University and Scripps Research Institute. His research focuses on non-precious metal catalysis, translational synthetic chemistry, and drug discovery. He earned his B.Sc. from Peking University, Ph.D. from Scripps Research Institute, and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard. His work emphasizes iron-catalyzed reactions for olefin functionalization, contributing to medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical research.
Research interests include catalytic nitrogen atom transfer, green chemistry methodologies, and development of new therapeutic probes. His awards include the NSF CAREER Award (2014), Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship (2015), and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowship (2021). Current research is supported by NIGMS.
Key contributions include iron-catalyzed aminofluorination, diazidation, and olefin difunctionalization reactions. His lab designs sustainable synthetic pathways for complex molecules, with applications in drug discovery and materials science.
