Hany Hassan is an Assistant Professor in Transportation Engineering at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Louisiana State University (LSU), and serves as the Graduate Program Advisor. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida (2011), an M.S. from Ain Shams University (2005), and a B.S. from Ain Shams University (2000). His research focuses on Transportation Safety, Intelligent Transportation Systems, connected/autonomous vehicles, human factors, and statistical applications in transportation.
Prior to LSU, he worked as a Senior Researcher at McMaster University (2018–2019), Projects Manager at Tatweer (2013–2018), and held academic roles at King Saud University and Ain Shams University. His expertise includes traffic simulation, driver behavior analysis, and infrastructure safety.
His research explores emerging technologies like CAVs, V2I communication, and pandemic impacts on traffic safety. He emphasizes senior driver mobility and crash severity analysis, often employing structural equation modeling and deep learning frameworks.
Notable contributions include studies on intersection lighting, autonomous vehicle adoption, and real-time traffic management using drones. He advises LSU’s ITE Student Chapter and contributes to transportation policy through applied research.
