Hans-Willi Mittrücker

Professor Hans-Willi Mittrücker is affiliated with the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, where he works at the Institute of Immunology within the Center for Diagnostics. His research focuses on immunological mechanisms in various disease contexts and physiological conditions.

Professor Mittrücker's research spans T cell biology, with particular emphasis on T lymphocyte regulation in intestinal homeostasis and inflammation, T cell memory responses, and tissue-resident memory T cells. His work investigates immune responses to bacterial infections including Tropheryma whippelii, viral infections during pregnancy (particularly influenza), and autoimmune kidney diseases such as glomerulonephritis.

His research portfolio demonstrates significant expertise in understanding feto-maternal immune interactions and the consequences for maternal and offspring health. Professor Mittrücker has been actively involved in multiple Collaborative Research Centers and Clinical Research Groups funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), with ongoing projects examining adenine nucleotide-modulated T cell functions and tissue-specific immune responses.
