Hans Oskierski serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Water, Energy and Waste, Murdoch University. His research tackles two pivotal challenges: permanent carbon dioxide sequestration through mineral carbonation and securing sustainable supplies of critical minerals essential for clean energy technologies.
Employing integrated field, experimental, and modeling methodologies alongside advanced analytical techniques—including isotopic, chemical, and crystallographic analyses—Dr. Oskierski studies carbonation processes in ultramafic rocks and the genesis, alteration, and extractive metallurgy of critical metal deposits. His work extends to in-situ monitoring of industrial calcination to reduce energy consumption.
With a strong collaborative network spanning European and German academic, governmental, and industrial partners, Dr. Oskierski has secured over 1.25 million AUD in competitive external funding and 425,000 AUD in facility access. He disseminates findings in high-impact journals like Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta and Minerals Engineering, and has delivered 40+ conference presentations, including three invited talks.
He directs the Sustainable Geochemistry and Mineral Sciences research group, which pioneers sustainable resource extraction and carbon management solutions through interdisciplinary science and engineering.
